Is Turkey in the EU? No, Turkey is not in the EU. Turkey’s European Union process is continuing for more than 50 years but it is unclear if Turkey will be a member at the end. Turkey applied for membership in 1987, and has been recognized as a candidate country in 1999. In 2005 Turkey's full membership to the European Union began the process. However, many negotiation chapters currently have not reached an agreement; and in the near future, this agreement cannot be foreseen. For this reason, the citizens of the European Union may have to apply for a Turkish visa in order to enter Turkey according to their country of origin.
Some agreements between EU member countries and Turkey result of nationals of some EU member countries are exempt from Turkey visa. For some European Union member countries, Turkish visa requirements are as follows:
